This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend the Roger Waters performance at the Garden. I have always been a big Pink Floyd fan, but have never had a chance to see this monumental production live. Needless to say, I was pumped to see this Roger Waters tour release, and with 3 shows here in Boston.
This show did not disappoint. Roger Waters, alongside a 12-piece band, played the opening song, “In the Flesh”, in the midst of an intense pyrotechnic display. The music was playing so loud throughout the Garden, that I knew this was going to be epic. The helicopters during “Another Brick in the Wall” seemed as if they were inside the venue.
Throughout the first set, the wall was built piece by piece. Some 400 plus LCD panels were assembled, each contributing to the overall video production. Accompanied by the large screen above the stage, an updated version of the original video was playing with the band. If you haven’t seen The Wall already, you really have to check it out to understand these visualizations. Check out the link below to see what I'm talking about.
The second set was incredible, with the wall fully built, and the animations in full effect. Roger plays a soulful “Comfortably Numb”, with his lead guitarist wailing on top of the wall,. Towards the end of the show, one of my favorite parts of this classic, “Run like Hell”, absolutely blew me away. (got a good recording: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCDGC6u1xHc)
And, as all good things must come to an end, the wall was broken down. This is one show I will never forget.
